In the 15th season of IPL, only a few matches of the league are left. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to change the timing of IPL from 2023. From next year onwards, night matches will be played from 8 pm and evening matches will be played from 4 pm. Currently, the afternoon match starts at 3:30 and the evening match starts at 7:30 pm.
According to media reports, the board has written a letter to all the companies involved in the competition for IPL broadcast, informing that the timing of both IPL matches has been increased by half an hour from the next season. The afternoon match will start at 4 pm instead of 3:30. The matches will be held from 8 pm instead of 7:30 pm. Currently, the toss for the afternoon match is at 3 pm, while the toss for the night match is at 7 pm. From next year, the toss for the afternoon match will be at 3:30 and the toss for the evening match will be at 7:30.
Media rights auction for 2023-2027 in June
BCCI is auctioning media rights afresh for 2023-2027. The auction is to be held on June 12 and 13. There is a competition between 7 companies for media rights. The board expects to earn $ 7.2 billion (about Rs 54 thousand crore) from this auction.
In the first 10 years of IPL, matches from 4 pm and 8 pm
In the first 10 years of IPL, the afternoon matches were held at 8 o’clock and the night matches were from 8 o’clock. Later on from the 11th season on the request of broadcaster Star Sports, the match timings were changed and night matches started from 7:30 pm instead of 8 pm and afternoon matches from 4 pm to 3:30 pm Huh. Star Sports paid Rs 16,347 crore to the board for media rights from 2018 to 2022.
